Artist bio

Emma Odenkirchen (1988) is a ceramicist and designer based in Eelde, The Netherlands. She studied Product Design at the HKU, where she first encountered ceramics and mould-making — but it was during a portrait sculpture class that something clicked. Her hands knew what to do before her head did. That feeling has been her compass ever since.

Before ceramics, Emma spent ten years designing clay jewellery (studio Bim Bam) that travelled the world — from concept stores like Klin d'oeil to museum shops including the Tate Modern, galleries, and an exhibition in Japan. The work was colourful, pattern-driven, and unmistakably hers.

But ceramics kept calling. Ceramic classes in Zwolle gave her the space to grow, and in 2022 a kiln found a permanent place in her studio, situated in her wooden family home in a small town. Since then, Emma has been building her practice in her art studio in Eelde — developing her own glazes, techniques and visual language. Bold, intuitive, stubbornly colourful. Patterns not as decoration, but as the way she actually sees the world.
